I was struck by the statement that Rob shared about John Reilly’s view of his work as an artist: “I am trying to paint the glory of God and through that the meaning of life.” I think this statement resonated with me because this is what I strive for as I prepare for the teaching time at the connection. I want to describe, share, interact with, and be overcome by the glory of God and through this say something worthwhile about the meaning of life.
One of my favourite sermons of all time in by N.T. Wright titled Jesus the World’s True Light. He preaches this message as an application on his work on Jesus (There are three lectures on Jesus that build to this message. The lectures are a good summary of his 600 page book on Jesus). I come back to this message again and again to be energized for the mission of bringing glory to God. In the message Wright talks about putting into practice the implications of the resurrection and how this task is not at all limited to the sphere of formal church ministry, but extends into all aspects of life and vocation.
These two ideas stick with me and at the same time excite me about being a participant in Christ's unfolding kingdom and the process of bringing glory to God.
